Classes
Creative Movement
Ages 3-5
Creative Movement is the very young child’s introduction to dance in a classroom setting. This class sparks the imagination of young dancers and develops their motor skills, while they move joyfully with the music. Young students will learn basic ballet vocabulary, and all exercises are age appropriate.
All dancers must be fully potty trained before registering for Creative Movement.
Primary Ballet
Ages 5-7
Primary Ballet will continue the young dancer’s exposure to ballet fundamentals and vocabulary. Barre work and center work are presented along with across the floor large motor movements.
Ballet
Ballet 1 (ages 8-11) Ballet 2 (9-12)
Ballet Levels 1-2 focus on foundational training in placement, strength building, traditional French ballet vocabulary, musicality and expression.
Ballet 3 & 4 (ages 10-17) Ballet 5 (12-17) Ballet 6 & 7 (13-20)
Ballet Levels 3-7 focus on the refinement of technical and performance skills with the goal of attaining pre-professional artistry. Musicality and presentation are strongly emphasized, with athleticism being every bit as important to the ballet experience as elegance and grace. Dancers in Ballet Level 3 and up are required to take at least two technique classes at Crescendo Conservatory per week in order to gain strength and improve technique.
Teen Beginning Ballet
Ages 12-18
Teen Beginning Ballet introduces ballet barre and center movement, epaulement (angles of the body) and traditional French vocabulary.
Adult/Teen Ballet
Ages 17+
Adult/Teen Ballet is a full technique class including barre work, stretching, center work, and combinations for adults and teens of all skill levels. Ballet is a great physical and mental workout, that builds tones the body through graceful movement. No matter what your skill level, you will be walking taller and feeling energized.
Adult/Teen Ballet classes are paid for with a virtual class card.
Class cards can be purchased in increments of:
- 5 classes for $55
- 10 classes for $100
- Drop in $20
Adult/Teen class cards can be purchased at Crescendo Conservatory.
Class Cards are non-refundable and non-transferable.
We no longer honor paper punch cards.
Prerequisites for Intermediate Adult Ballet - 2 years experience as an adult in beginner ballet and instructor approval.
Progressive Ballet Technique
Ages 10 - Adult
New class! Enhance your dance training with Progressive Ballet Technique! This body conditioning and strength-building program is designed for dancers. Students will learn ballet-specific exercises for building strength injury prevention and rehabilitation, improved posture, core strength and more!
Pre-Pointe
Placement upon audition
Pre-Pointe is the prerequisite to “going on pointe”. This class emphasizes proper placement and develops the dancer’s strength for pointe work. Students must attend this class for 12-16 months for insured readiness for pointe work. Dancers must be at Level 3 or higher, and must be registered for at least 2 ballet technique classes at Crescendo Conservatory to be eligible for a pre-pointe or pointe class. One year of two ballet technique classes must be completed for proper strength building prior to attending pre-pointe class.
Pointe 1-4
These classes are designed to train the serious ballet student on pointe. As students progress to higher levels, variations and partnering work will be included in class work.
Jazz
Jazz 1 (ages 8-11) Jazz 2 (9-12) Jazz 3 (10-14)
Jazz Levels 1-3 focus on foundational training in core strength, coordination, jazz vocabulary and musicality. Jazz class explores traditional, Broadway and contemporary styles with fun, upbeat energy. Flexibility, coordination and strength are focal points of the warm up, followed by progressions across the floor, center work and combinations. Beginner students learn basic jazz steps and vocabulary through across the floor exercises and simple combinations.
Jazz 4 (ages 11-15) Jazz 5 (12-17) Jazz 6 (13-17)
Jazz Levels 4-7 focus on continued progress in strength and flexibility, while introducing dancers to a wide range of jazz music and continuing to explore different styles. Intermediate classes focus on body placement and proper technique, stretching and development of skills. Advanced classes emphasize quality of movement in addition to perfecting technique and improving performance skills in various styles.
Beginning Contemporary Dance
Ages 9-16
Prerequisite: 1 year of prior ballet training
The class concentrates on body awareness, exploring different levels, traveling movements and positions and increasing the body’s strength and flexibility. The concept of fall and recovery, contractions, jumps, turns, improvisation and exploration of different musical rhythms and their dynamics are introduced.
Intermediate and Advanced Contemporary
Prerequisite: Beginner Contemporary Dance
These classes include exposure to Horton, Limon, Graham and other foundational techniques. Contemporary combines ballet and jazz for an expressive form of dance. Work in improvisation and choreographic principles are introduced. Ballet class required.
Musical Theatre
(ages 8-18)
This class will delve into the art form that is musical theatre: singing, dancing and acting! Students will learn all that it takes to be successful in musical theatre from learning choreography, to singing WHILE dancing and telling stories through song. Students will also work on scenes from various musicals and work on improvisation to build their creative and storytelling skills.
Crescendo In Motion
Crescendo in Motion is the official performance company of Crescendo Conservatory. Crescendo in Motion performs works set by current and former professionals and takes part in city wide collaborative art events.
Past performances include the Future Stages Festival at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts, Chinese New Year Celebration at Yardley Hall, The Nutcracker Tea Party, The National Dance Week Celebration, The Painted Garden Festival at Powell Gardens and numerous other community service presentations.
Class Placement Policy
Placement depends on several factors including age, physical strength and development. After the first few classes, if a student needs to be moved to a different class level, it will be at the teacher’s discretion and will be discussed with the parents.
